Why Firmware Updates Matter
HPzenAi regularly releases gateway firmware updates that improve RS485 device compatibility, fix connectivity edge cases, enhance security, and add new features. Keeping the gateway on the latest firmware is recommended for all installations. Updates are delivered over the air (OTA) via the internet connection and require no physical access to the gateway.
Checking the Current Firmware Version
The current firmware version, build date, and available update status are all accessible from the HPzenAi app.

Installing a Firmware Update Over Wi-Fi (OTA)
Firmware updates are downloaded directly to the gateway over the active internet connection (Wi-Fi or SIM). The process takes 3–6 minutes. Do not power off the gateway or disconnect it from the internet during an update.

- 1Ensure the gateway is connected to Wi-Fi or SIM and the app shows it as Online.
- 2Go to Device Settings → Firmware → Update in the HPzenAi app.
- 3Tap 'Install Update'. The gateway downloads the firmware package — download progress is shown in the app.
- 4Once downloaded, the gateway installs the firmware and restarts automatically.
- 5The gateway LED will go dark during the restart, then return to solid green when the update is complete.
- 6Open Device Settings → About to confirm the firmware version has updated to the new release.
- 7Do not power off the gateway during the installation phase — this can corrupt the firmware and require a recovery procedure.
Enabling Automatic Updates
Automatic firmware updates install the latest firmware during a configured maintenance window with no user action required. Auto-updates are recommended for all deployments where continuous operation is the priority.
- 1Go to Device Settings → Firmware → Auto-Update in the HPzenAi app.
- 2Toggle 'Enable Auto-Update' on.
- 3Set the maintenance window — the default is 2:00 AM to 4:00 AM local time.
- 4The gateway downloads and installs updates silently during the maintenance window.
- 5A notification is sent to the app when an update has been successfully installed.
Firmware Update Troubleshooting
If a firmware update fails or the gateway becomes unreachable after an update attempt, follow these steps.
- 1If the update download stalls, check that the gateway has stable internet connectivity and retry.
- 2If the gateway is unreachable after an update, wait 5 minutes — the update installation may still be in progress.
- 3If the gateway does not recover after 10 minutes, power cycle it by disconnecting and reconnecting the 12V DC supply.
- 4If the gateway boots but shows an error or older firmware version, retry the firmware update from the app.
- 5Contact HPzenAi support if the gateway does not respond after a power cycle following a failed update — a USB recovery procedure may be required.
