How Gateway Wi-Fi Works
The HPzenAi gateway uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) to connect to your local router and forward field device data securely to the HPzenAi cloud platform. Wi-Fi is the primary uplink for all gateway models. On GW-1 and GW-2, a nano-SIM provides automatic cellular fallback when Wi-Fi is unavailable, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring even during broadband outages.
Before You Start
Confirm these prerequisites are in place before beginning Wi-Fi setup.
- 12.4 GHz Wi-Fi network available at the gateway installation location (5 GHz is not supported).
- 2WPA2 or WPA3 security on the router (open networks are not recommended).
- 3HPzenAi app installed and logged in on your iOS or Android smartphone.
- 4Gateway powered on, with the Wi-Fi antenna attached and pointing vertically.
- 5Smartphone Bluetooth enabled — the initial setup pairing uses BLE.
Step 1 — Power On and Enter Setup Mode
Power on the gateway by connecting the 12V DC supply. The LED will flash blue slowly, indicating the gateway is in Wi-Fi setup mode and ready to pair with the app. If the LED is solid green, the gateway is already connected to a network. Hold the RESET button for 3 seconds to clear the existing Wi-Fi configuration and return to setup mode.

Step 2 — Add Gateway in the App
Use the HPzenAi app to initiate the Wi-Fi provisioning flow. The app connects to the gateway over Bluetooth to deliver the Wi-Fi credentials securely — your phone will not need to join the gateway hotspot.
Guided Help Center
Open the HPzenAi app.
Step 3 — Enter Wi-Fi Credentials
After pairing, the app displays a list of 2.4 GHz networks visible to the gateway. Select your network, enter the password, and send the credentials to the gateway.

- 1Select your Wi-Fi network (SSID) from the list of detected networks.
- 2Enter the Wi-Fi password — passwords are case-sensitive.
- 3Tap Connect. The gateway receives the credentials over BLE and attempts to join the network.
- 4The LED will flash rapidly while connecting, then turn solid green when the connection is established.
- 5If the LED flashes red, the password was incorrect — tap Retry and re-enter the credentials.
Step 4 — Verify Cloud Connection
Once the gateway is on Wi-Fi, it registers with the HPzenAi cloud within 30 seconds. Confirm the connection is working before proceeding to link field devices.
- 1The app will display a 'Gateway Connected' confirmation screen.
- 2The gateway tile on the dashboard shows a solid green indicator and signal strength.
- 3Go to Gateway → Status and confirm 'Cloud: Online' is shown.
- 4If the gateway is online on Wi-Fi but shows no cloud connection, check that port 8883 (MQTT/TLS) is not blocked by your router firewall.
Static IP and Advanced Network Settings
By default the gateway uses DHCP to obtain an IP address automatically. For environments that require a fixed IP — such as managed networks or firewall rule configurations — a static IP can be set in the app. Go to Device Settings → Network → IP Configuration and enter the static IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server addresses provided by your network administrator.
Wi-Fi and SIM Fallback (GW-1, GW-2 Only)
When a nano-SIM is installed and mobile data is enabled, the gateway automatically switches to cellular data if Wi-Fi connectivity is lost for more than 60 seconds. The LED turns amber during SIM operation. Wi-Fi is automatically restored as the primary uplink as soon as the wireless network becomes available again. Data collected during the SIM period is synchronised to the cloud once connectivity returns.
