Motor Controllers

Configurations

Phase-loss protection, star-delta timer, dry-run protection, scheduling, and alert configuration for the MX-3P.

Section: Moto-X 3-Phase

Phase-Loss Protection

Phase-loss protection is active by default on the MX-3P. If any of the three phases (R, S, T) is lost for more than the configured trip delay, the motor stops and an alert is sent.

Steps

  • Phase-loss sensing requires the R, S, T sense wires to be connected to the MX-3P phase sense terminals during installation.
  • Configure the phase-loss trip delay at Device Settings → Motor → Phase Loss Delay. Default: 2 seconds. Minimum: 500 ms. Increase to 5 seconds in areas with frequent momentary supply dips to avoid nuisance trips.
  • Enable or disable phase-loss protection at Device Settings → Motor → Phase Loss Protection (ON by default — do not disable unless specifically required).
  • After a phase-loss trip, the motor will not restart automatically. Reset the fault latch in the app (Device → Reset Fault) before restarting.
  • Phase imbalance (voltage unbalance >5%) is logged as a warning — configure the imbalance threshold at Device Settings → Motor → Phase Imbalance Threshold.

Star-Delta Timer Configuration

This section applies only to the MX-3P-SD (star-delta) variant. The star-to-delta transition timer controls how long the motor runs in star before switching to delta.

Steps

  • Navigate to Device Settings → Motor → Star-Delta Timer.
  • Set the star run time — the duration the motor runs in star configuration before transitioning to delta. Recommended: 5–10 seconds for most three-phase induction motors. Large motors (above 30 HP) may need 10–15 seconds.
  • The transition sequence is: Main ON + Star ON → [star timer expires] → Star OFF → [50 ms pause] → Delta ON. This pause prevents shorting the supply — do not modify the pause duration.
  • If the motor fails to transition (stays in star): check that the delta contactor A1 wire is correctly connected to MX-3P DELTA output, and that the delta contactor is not mechanically seized.
  • Set the transition sensitivity at Device Settings → Motor → Transition Detection. If the module detects a current spike above this threshold during transition, it will abort the start and raise a fault.

Motor Protection Settings

Steps

  • RESTART DELAY: Set the minimum time between stop and next start. Device Settings → Motor → Restart Delay. Recommended: 60 seconds for large three-phase motors to allow motor to fully decelerate before restart.
  • RUNTIME LIMIT: Set maximum continuous run time. Device Settings → Motor → Max Runtime. Motor stops and alerts if this time is exceeded.
  • FAULT LATCH: Enable to prevent automatic restart after any fault trip (phase loss, overload relay trip, dry-run). Requires manual reset in the app.

Dry-Run Protection

Steps

  • Requires an HPzenAi LS-PRE level sensor installed in the water source and linked to the same gateway.
  • In the app: Automation → Add Rule → Trigger: Level Sensor Low → Action: Stop Motor.
  • Add a second rule for automatic restart when level restores: Trigger: Level Sensor High → Action: Start Motor.
  • For agricultural bore pumps, set a dry-run restart wait time (Trigger: Level Restored → Wait 5 minutes → Start) to allow the bore to partially recover before restarting.
  • Test: simulate Level Low in the app and confirm the motor stops within the configured delay.

Scheduling & Alerts

Steps

  • Add run schedules at Device → Schedules → Add Schedule. Set Daily or Weekly, and the Start Time and Stop Time.
  • Push notifications for FAULT ALERT, PHASE LOSS ALERT, DRY-RUN ALERT, RUNTIME ALERT, and OFFLINE ALERT are configured at Device → Alerts.
  • PHASE LOSS ALERT is critical — set the notification priority to High so it wakes the phone if the motor trips due to single-phasing during unattended operation.
  • All events are logged in Device → Event Log with timestamp, event type, and phase status at the time of the event.
