Gateway Linking

How to connect the SP-3P's built-in MX-3P module to an HPzenAi gateway over RS485 and link it in the app, whether the gateway is panel-integrated or external.

What You'll Need​

Steps​

  • SP-3P assembly installed, 12V DC control power on, and three-phase mains supply restored.
  • HPzenAi gateway (GW-W1 Wi-Fi or GW-XR1 SIM/RF) available, whether integrated within the panel arrangement or installed externally, and connected to the HPzenAi platform.
  • RS485 shielded twisted-pair cable pre-run from the SP-3P panel to the gateway.
  • HPzenAi app installed and logged in to your project account.
  • MX-3P Modbus address — factory default is Address 1.

RS485 Wiring to Gateway​

The SP-3P exposes MX-3P RS485-A and RS485-B terminals on the side of the assembly. Multiple SP-3P units can share the same RS485 bus to the gateway. The RS485 link is required whether the gateway is integrated into the panel arrangement or installed externally.

Steps​

  • Route RS485 shielded cable from the SP-3P assembly to the gateway in the low-voltage cable duct — separate from the 415V mains cables.
  • At SP-3P end: A core → RS485-A; B core → RS485-B. Shield drain → panel earth bar.
  • At gateway end: A core → RS485-A; B core → RS485-B. Shield floating.
  • If SP-3P is the last device on the bus and the run exceeds 10 m: fit 120 Ω termination resistor between RS485-A and RS485-B at the SP-3P terminals.
  • Assign unique Modbus addresses if multiple SP-3P or MX-3P modules are on the same bus.

RS485 Scan & Device Detection​

Steps​

  • Open the HPzenAi app, tap the gateway tile, and open gateway settings.
  • Tap RS485 → Scan Devices.
  • The SP-3P built-in module appears as 'Motor Controller — SP-3P' with its Modbus address and current phase status.
  • If not detected: confirm the MX-3P LED is lit on the SP-3P assembly (12V DC present), check RS485 polarity, and verify no duplicate Modbus addresses on the bus.
  • If phase sense wires are connected, the scan result also shows the current phase status (R, S, T present/absent).

Verifying the Connection​

Steps​

  • Confirm the starter tile shows Online (green) in the app.
  • Tap Manual Control → Start. The SP-3P contactor should click and the motor should run.
  • Check that the app shows all three phases as present in the device status panel.
  • Tap Stop and confirm the motor stops and the contactor releases.
  • Runtime hours and phase status data appear in Device → Status after the first successful start.
