How Scheduling Works
Valve schedules are created in the HPzenAi app and stored on the relay controller. The controller executes schedules independently — valves open and close on time even if the app is closed or the internet is temporarily unavailable. Each of the 8 relay channels can have its own independent daily or weekly schedule, sunrise/sunset-offset timing, or sensor-triggered automation.
Creating a Timed Irrigation Schedule
Image
- 1Open the HPzenAi app and navigate to the relay controller device tile.
- 2Tap Schedules → New Schedule.
- 3Select the channel number corresponding to the valve zone you want to schedule.
- 4Set the Start Time (e.g., 06:00) and Duration (e.g., 30 minutes).
- 5Choose the Recurrence: Daily, specific days of the week, or custom intervals.
- 6Tap Save — the schedule is pushed to the relay controller and stored locally.
- 7Verify the schedule appears in the channel's schedule list with the correct time and days.
- 8To pause a schedule without deleting it, toggle the schedule off from the schedule list.

Sunrise / Sunset Offset Scheduling
Instead of a fixed clock time, schedules can be triggered relative to sunrise or sunset. This is useful for garden watering — for example, 'start 30 minutes before sunrise every day'. The relay controller adjusts start times automatically each day based on the gateway's location data.
- 1In New Schedule, tap Start Time and switch from 'Fixed Time' to 'Sunrise Offset' or 'Sunset Offset'.
- 2Set the offset in minutes — positive values run after sunrise/sunset, negative values before.
- 3Ensure the gateway has accurate location settings: Gateway → Settings → Location.
- 4Sunrise/sunset times update daily on the controller automatically.
Sequential Zone Watering
To water multiple zones in sequence without running them simultaneously, stagger the schedules across channels with start times spaced by the duration of the previous zone. This prevents excessive current draw and ensures each zone receives adequate pressure.
- 1Assign Zone 1 (channel 1) a start time of 06:00 and a 20-minute duration.
- 2Assign Zone 2 (channel 2) a start time of 06:20 and a 20-minute duration.
- 3Continue assigning staggered start times for each zone.
- 4Only one valve opens at a time — this maximises flow rate and pressure per zone.
- 5If zones must run simultaneously, verify the water supply can meet the combined flow demand.
Soil Moisture Triggered Watering
If an HPzenAi soil sensor (AGRI-SOIL-8F) is connected to the same gateway as the relay controller, irrigation can be triggered automatically based on measured soil moisture rather than a fixed schedule.
- 1Ensure the soil sensor is linked to the same gateway as the relay controller.
- 2In the app, go to Gateway → Automation → New Rule.
- 3Set the Trigger: Soil Sensor → Moisture → 'falls below' → [threshold %] (e.g., 30%).
- 4Set the Action: Relay Controller → Channel X → Open.
- 5Add a second rule: Soil Sensor → Moisture → 'rises above' → [target %] (e.g., 70%) → Channel X → Close.
- 6Save both rules — the automation runs locally on the gateway without app connectivity.
Manual Override
Any scheduled valve can be manually opened or closed from the app at any time. The manual state remains active until the next scheduled event fires, or until you manually return the channel to automatic mode.
- 1Open the relay controller tile in the app.
- 2Tap the channel you want to override.
- 3Tap Open or Close to manually control the valve.
- 4A 'Manual' badge appears on the channel tile to indicate the override is active.
- 5To return to scheduled control, tap Resume Schedule on the channel.
- 6Manual overrides do not cancel existing schedules — the next scheduled event will execute normally.
Schedule Checklist
- 1Each valve channel has a named zone for easy identification.
- 2Schedules reviewed and confirmed in the channel's schedule list.
- 3Sequential watering zones staggered to avoid simultaneous operation where pressure is limited.
- 4Sunrise/sunset offsets configured if using time-relative scheduling.
- 5Soil moisture automation rules saved and tested if using sensor-triggered irrigation.
- 6Controller tested offline — confirmed schedules run without app connectivity.
