Meter Installation
Install the water meter in the pipeline using the correct orientation, flow direction, and valve arrangement. Proper mechanical installation is required for reliable metering performance and leak-free operation.
Image
- 1Install the water meter in a horizontal position with the register facing upward.
- 2Ensure the flow direction arrow on the meter body matches the direction of water flow.
- 3Install an upstream isolation valve to allow maintenance and meter replacement.
- 4A downstream isolation valve is recommended for easier servicing and leak testing.
- 5Use correctly sized gaskets and couplings to ensure a leak-tight installation.
- 6Install the meter in an accessible location for reading, inspection, and maintenance.
- 7Tighten connections only as required to achieve a proper seal — do not over-tighten.
- 8Do not use pipe sealant, thread compound, or PTFE / Teflon tape on meter threads.
Commissioning & Final Inspection
After installation, commission the meter carefully to verify proper operation, remove trapped air, and confirm that the register is recording flow correctly.
Image
- 1Thoroughly flush the service line before installing the meter to remove dirt, sand, and debris.
- 2Slowly open the upstream isolation valve and allow the meter to fill with water.
- 3Open a nearby faucet or outlet to release trapped air from the pipeline.
- 4Once a steady flow of water is achieved, close the faucet.
- 5Inspect all connections, couplings, and joints for leaks.
- 6Verify that the meter register is operating correctly and recording flow.
- 7Confirm the meter is installed horizontally with the register facing upward.
- 8Ensure no leaks are detected and the meter is accessible for reading and maintenance.
Final Inspection Checklist
Use this checklist before handing over the installation or proceeding to communication setup.
- 1Meter installed horizontally.
- 2Register facing upward.
- 3Flow direction correct.
- 4Gaskets properly installed.
- 5Isolation valves installed.
- 6No leaks detected.
- 7Air removed from the pipeline.
- 8Meter operating normally.
- 9Meter accessible for reading and maintenance.
Important Installation Notes
Follow these precautions during installation and service.
- 1Always flush the pipeline before installing the meter.
- 2Replace gaskets whenever the meter is removed and reinstalled.
- 3Protect the meter from physical damage and environmental exposure.
- 4Ensure adequate clearance around the meter for future maintenance and inspection.
