What You'll Need
- 1MX-3P module installed, powered on (12V DC), and three-phase mains supply restored to the starter panel.
- 2HPzenAi gateway (GW-W1 Wi-Fi or GW-XR1 SIM/RF) available, whether integrated within the panel architecture or installed as an external gateway, and connected to the HPzenAi platform.
- 3RS485 shielded twisted-pair cable (1.0 mm², 120 Ω matched) — pre-run from the MX-3P panel to the gateway.
- 4HPzenAi app installed and logged in to your project account.
- 5Modbus address of the MX-3P — factory default is Address 1.
RS485 Wiring to Gateway
RS485 is a differential two-wire bus that supports multiple devices on the same cable pair. The MX-3P and the gateway share the A/B terminals; the RS485 link is required whether the gateway is integrated into the panel system or installed as an external gateway. All other HPzenAi RS485 devices can share the same bus.
Image
- 1Run the RS485 shielded cable from the MX-3P panel to the gateway. Route away from 415V mains cables — minimum 100 mm separation or separate conduit.
- 2At the MX-3P end: A core → RS485-A terminal; B core → RS485-B terminal. Connect shield drain to panel earth.
- 3At the gateway end: A core → gateway RS485-A; B core → RS485-B. Leave shield floating at gateway end.
- 4If MX-3P is the last device on the RS485 bus and the run exceeds 10 m: fit a 120 Ω termination resistor across RS485-A and RS485-B at the MX-3P end.
- 5Each RS485 device must have a unique Modbus address. Set the MX-3P address using the selector inside the module cover before powering on if multiple devices share the bus.
RS485 Scan & Device Detection
- 1Open the HPzenAi app and navigate to the gateway tile. Tap to open gateway settings.
- 2Tap RS485 → Scan Devices. The gateway scans Modbus addresses 1–247.
- 3The MX-3P appears in results as 'Motor Controller — MX-3P' or 'Motor Controller — MX-3P-SD' depending on the variant, with its Modbus address.
- 4If not detected: confirm 12V DC LED is lit on the module, check RS485 A/B polarity (swap if needed), and verify no duplicate Modbus addresses on the bus.
- 5Phase-loss status is read back from the module — the scan result shows current phase presence if all three phases are connected to the sense terminals.

Verifying the Connection
- 1Confirm the motor controller tile shows Online (green) in the app.
- 2Tap Manual Control → Start. The main contactor should click and the motor should run.
- 3Check that the app shows running current and phase status in the device detail view.
- 4Tap Stop and confirm the motor stops.
- 5If the tile shows phase-loss alarm on first start: check that R, S, T sense wires are connected to the MX-3P phase sense terminals — without these wires connected the module cannot detect phase presence and may alarm immediately.
- 6Runtime hours, phase status, and event history are available in Device → Status.
