What You'll Need
- 1MX-1P module installed, powered on (12V DC), and mains supply available to the starter.
- 2HPzenAi gateway (GW-W1 Wi-Fi gateway or GW-XR1 SIM/RF gateway) available, whether integrated within the panel architecture or installed as an external gateway, and connected to the HPzenAi platform.
- 3RS485 shielded twisted-pair cable (1.0 mm², 120 Ω matched) — pre-run from the MX-1P panel to the gateway location.
- 4HPzenAi app installed on your phone and logged in to your project account.
- 5Modbus address of the MX-1P — default is Address 1 (configurable in app after linking).
RS485 Wiring to Gateway
RS485 is a differential two-wire bus. Connect the MX-1P to the HPzenAi gateway RS485 port using the A and B terminals. The RS485 connection is required whether the gateway is built into the panel arrangement or installed externally nearby. Multiple devices can share the same RS485 bus — the gateway scans all addresses.
Image
- 1Run the RS485 shielded cable from the MX-1P panel to the gateway. Keep this cable away from 220V mains cables — maintain at least 100 mm separation or run in a separate conduit.
- 2At the MX-1P end: connect cable A (positive/non-inverting) to MX-1P RS485-A terminal; cable B (negative/inverting) to RS485-B. Connect the shield drain wire to the panel earth terminal.
- 3At the gateway end: connect cable A to gateway RS485-A terminal; cable B to RS485-B. Leave the shield floating at the gateway end — grounding at both ends creates a ground loop.
- 4If the MX-1P is the last (or only) device on the RS485 bus and the cable run exceeds 10 metres, fit a 120 Ω termination resistor between RS485-A and RS485-B at the MX-1P end.
- 5Maximum RS485 bus length: 1000 m at 9600 baud (standard gateway RS485 scan rate).
RS485 Scan & Device Detection
- 1Open the HPzenAi app. Navigate to the gateway device tile and tap it to open gateway settings.
- 2Tap RS485 → Scan Devices. The gateway will scan Modbus addresses 1–247 at 9600 baud.
- 3The MX-1P appears in the scan results as 'Motor Controller — MX-1P' with its Modbus address.
- 4If the device does not appear: check RS485 A and B polarity (swap if needed), confirm 12V DC power is on at the module (green LED), and verify the cable shield is earthed at the panel end only.
- 5Each device on the RS485 bus must have a unique Modbus address — if multiple MX-1P modules are on the same bus, assign unique addresses before scanning (use the address selector inside the MX-1P module cover).

Verifying the Connection
- 1On the motor controller tile in the app, confirm the status shows Online (green indicator).
- 2Tap the tile to open the motor controller detail view. Tap Manual Control → Start and confirm the contactor clicks and the motor starts.
- 3Tap Stop — confirm the contactor releases and the motor stops.
- 4If the tile shows Offline after linking: check gateway power and internet connection, verify RS485 cable continuity (measure resistance between A and B at the gateway end — should read the motor controller coil resistance or a defined value).
- 5Runtime data (hours run, last start time) appears in the device detail view within 60 seconds of the first successful start command.
